- 1 September 1990
Smile was released initially in North America in September 1990 to pave the way for Nowhere‘s release just a few months later.
The compilation was then released in Japan in January 1991 hot on the heels of Nowhere’s release there (and the band’s highly successfully first tour in December 1990) .
Smile was also released in Australia in 1991 following the band’s debut shows there in June of that year.
Warners lined up a European release for November 1992 but had to pull this at the last minute when they realised that they didn’t control the rights for those tracks in Europe. Creation released Smile in the UK at this time and exported their version across Europe to fill the demand. The Ride and Play EPs had only been available in the UK on their original release and by 1992 they had both been deleted by Creation – but not before they had each sold 75,000 copies.
Smile was reissued along with the main 4 studio albums by Ignition Records at the time of the OX4_The Best Of release in September 2001 and has remained as a fixture of the back catalogue since then.
